As a senior software engineer at OJC Technologies, David Young is broadly concerned with creating systems software for computer networks. David envisions a future of seamless, opportunistic network connectivity, where computer/handset intelligence replace configuration wizards and control panels to make networks easier and more enjoyable for people to use.

In recent work, David has developed a wireless mesh network, renovated the IP networking stack in NetBSD, and programmed 802.11 ("WiFi") device drivers.

In the area of community wireless networking, David led with his concepts and designs, producing the first zero-configuration, IPv6-ready community mesh network in the world as technical lead for the Champaign-Urbana Community Wireless Network (CUWiN).

David has an expert understanding of WiFi, and he has been an advocate and developer of open-source wireless technology for several years. David's polite and professional negotiations with wireless chipmakers such as ADMtek and Realtek yielded the documentation that he used to program some of the first fully open-source 802.11 device drivers. More recently, David wrote a driver for a leading semiconductor firm's 802.11n (MIMO) solution, and tuned it for top performance.

David's renovations to NetBSD networking have made the IP stack more robust to dynamic routes, modernized source-address selection, and made the in-kernel GRE tunnel feature leaner, more complete and maintainable.

David Young was born in Huntsville, Alabama. He has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Cornell University.
