Dave Young, OJC software engineer, presents on the benefits of Community Wireless Networks to policymakers in D.C.
Dave Young, the technical lead and co-founder of the Champaign-Urbana Community Wireless Network (CUWiN), presented a talk entitled "Creating the Mesh Community: A Sustainable Community Wireless Network" at the Pervasive Connectivity Conference. The Conference was hosted by the New America Foundation, a independent public policy institute focused on "bringing exceptionally promising new voices and new ideas to the fore of our nation's public discourse."
Dave Young, at age 27, is one of those new voices. Mr. Young explains the benefits of this kind of technology: "Community Wireless Networks bring local communications with public service priorities to cities across the U.S. A community network can help government improve efficiency and service, boost economic growth in targeted areas, help first aid responders and law enforcement, help close the digital divide, and revitalize local culture and politics."
Dave is a software engineer at OJC Technologies which donates space and resources to the CUWiN. CUWiN recently received a $200,000 grant from the Open Society Institute, funded by the Soros Foundation, to develop wireless technology to be used around the globe, with a focus on developing nations.
