OJC Partners with U of I Professor on Educational Software

OJC Technologies recently partnered with long time client, Gerald Nelson, to produce an interactive software for economics classes. The software, a DiscoverEcon education supplement for the textbook "Economics of Resources, Agriculture, and Food" was completed and released to students on Wednesday, August 26, 2003.

Dr. Nelson, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has been a client of OJC Technologies for almost 4 years. During that time, he's worked closely with both OJC and textbook giant McGraw-Hill to produce DiscoverEcon supplements for many other best-selling economics textbooks.

Knowing the skills of OJC staff and being extremely comfortable in his relationship with OJC, Dr. Nelson approached OJC with a financial partnership proposal for creating a new DiscoverEcon supplement for a book co-authored by Dr Nelson, himself. OJC accepted, and by building on the strong technical foundations established with previous DiscoverEcon supplements, was able to bring the software to market in less than 3 months.

All DiscoverEcon supplements are arranged like textbooks and divided into chapters in accordance with the textbook they support. In addition to further text explanations, the online books also offer java-based interactive graphs, movies, essay questions, and exercises of all kinds. Online versions of DiscoverEcon are available with electronic score submission, so instructors can easily see and download student scores through an internet browser. Many versions of DiscoverEcon are also available as stand-alone software on CD.

The DiscoverEcon supplement for "Economics of Resources, Agriculture, and Food" is offered only as an online software. Students purchase access to the software online via credit card, and they have access to it for the duration of the semester. OJC not only built the software, it also hosts the software on a stable, high-speed server, provides customer support for the software, and handles processing of all online financial transactions.
