UIUC Division of Engineering Services
CLIENTThe University of Illinois Office of Instructional Resources Divison of Engineering Services (DES). CHALLENGEDES needed to streamline their inventory management process. Their inventory was scattered amongst seven Microsoft Access databases, duplicated data entry, often corrupting data through propagation of multiple entries in different states. The new system needed to, at minimum, combine seven databases into one, and eliminate data duplication and corruption. SOLUTIONOJC designed went a step further and designed a comprehensive inventory management system with a single Microsoft SQL Server database. OJC created a user interface in Microsoft Access in order to capitalize on the base of Access knowledge that already existed. The resulting inventory management system offers DES staff a single place to go to place work-orders, fill out purchase orders, restock inventory, record timesheet labor, and create invoices. OJC's customized system solved DES's data duplication problems and streamlined their unique workflow. TECHNOLOGYMicrosoft SQL Server backend, with a Microsoft Access user interface.
