UIUC Office of Volunteer Programs
A Site to Motivate and Enable Student Volunteerism
CLIENTThe Office of Volunteer Programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) CHALLENGEThe Office of Volunteer Programs (OVP) needed cohesiveness and graphic impact in their web presence, as well as the addition of an easy-to-reference, online database of student service organizations. Their primary audience consists of UIUC students who wish to volunteer their time contribute to the community, as well as to enhance their learning experience in their chosen field. The new site needed to effectively reach to this audience through graphic appeal and ease-of-use. SOLUTIONOJC worked meticulously with OVP in the beginning stages to determine style preferences, site navigation, and programming needs. This strategy succeeded in that it minimized the number of design modifications, which helped keep the project within its limited budget. OJC programmed the student services database, sortable by several methods, and styled it to integrate with the new site design. The new design uses photographs of student volunteers and service-oriented quotations within a bright, warm, UIUC-inspired color scheme. The overall result is a site that appeals to its student audience, makes information easy to find, and communicates the positive impacts of volunteerism.
