Building consensus with
multiple stakeholders

Client

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is the largest university in Chicago.

Challenge

UIC wanted a new homepage that would appeal to prospective students. At the same time, a new site also had to be easier to maintain, be accessible to users with disabilities, and serve existing students, faculty, and staff. The project had divergent goals and a broad group of stakeholders.

Solution

OJC interviewed stakeholders and advisors and created web-based surveys to gather information about the site's users and about campus web developers. OJC created a site navigation by categorizing hundreds of links and testing with human subjects. OJC designed marketing content to appeal to prospective students with imagery and facts. After 10 months of development, OJC delivered a handful of sites including the main site and a database-driven News Bureau.
